Jammu and Kashmir is set to witness another prolonged spell of wet weather, with the Meteorological Department (MeT) forecasting widespread rainfall across the Union Territory over the next 10 days. The department has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of the Jammu division between August 9 and 11, raising concerns over flash floods and landslides.

According to the MeT, August 7 and 8 are likely to see one or two spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places, while a few areas may experience brief but intense showers.

The weather is expected to become more active from August 9 to 11, with light to moderate rain and thundershowers forecast at most places across J&K. During this period, a few districts in the Jammu division are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, while some districts in the Kashmir division may witness short-duration intense showers.

The wet spell is expected to continue from August 12 to 17, with the possibility of light rain and thundershowers at many places and brief intense showers in isolated areas.

The MeT has warned that torrential rainfall could trigger flash floods, landslides in vulnerable areas, and waterlogging in low-lying regions, particularly during August 9-11.

Residents have been advised to avoid rivers, nallahs, landslide-prone areas, and other vulnerable locations during periods of heavy rainfall. Authorities have also been urged to remain on alert and take necessary precautionary measures to minimize the impact of the expected weather conditions.
