Jammu and Kashmir Police has booked BJP's Pulwama district president Showkat Gayoor for alleged extortion and criminal intimidation of a contractor, officials said on Tuesday.
The FIR was registered Monday night at Newa police post in Pulwama on the basis of a complaint by Mohammad Yaseen Ganie who also alleged that the BJP leader threatened him that he would get him booked under the stringent Public Safety Act if the demands were not met.
In his complaint, Ganie alleged that Gayoor repeatedly committed acts of extortion, criminal intimidation, wrongful restraint, obstruction, harassment and made illegal demands in connection with the lawful work being undertaken for Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee, Barthana.
